Easy Ways to Improve Indoor Airflow

When you purchase a new air conditioner and it is installed by Tyler Heating, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration LLC professionals, you are thinking long term. You want to have that cooling unit for the next decade or two and you want to have the most efficient experience possible. But like most things in life, the experience you have is dictated by the actions you take. Keeping proper airflow in and around your unit is absolutely crucial to maintaining efficiency. Here are some steps you can take to improve airflow and increase efficiency.

Inspect Your Air Filter

The general rule of thumb for HVAC systems is that their filters need to be changed every 90 days. But in times of heavy usage like the Summer, it might become clogged more frequently than that. On the first of every month, give your filter a quick check and see if it needs to be cleaned or changed.

Give it Room to Breathe

Much like a human being, if you don’t give an air conditioner room to breathe is is going to choke. When it chokes, it tends to overheat and this will have you calling Tyler to come in and repair the unit that we just installed! You should not have any furniture, drapes or plants blocking the grilles of your cooling system. No exceptions! Here are some more quick tips:

  • Vent louvers should ALWAYS be open.
  • If you want zoned cooling, you need to install a special system.
  • Closing louvers can negatively impact your ducts.

Inspect Your Outdoor Unit

If you have a central air unit with an exterior condenser or heat pump, you can’t just keep these things out of sight and out of mind. When you or your landscaper mow the lawn, those grass clippings can become caught in the blades and restrict airflow. Having high grass or plants within two feet of your outdoor unit is also not advised. Much like the previous tip, you have to let these systems breathe if you want them running at maximum efficiency!

Does your cooling system have enough room to breathe? Give your window air conditioners and central air units a check tonight just to be safe! If this blog reached you a little too late, we can take care of the air conditioner repairs for you in a quick and efficient manner.
