When to Clean Your Air Ducts

The cleanliness of your air ducts can have a huge impact on your home’s overall indoor air quality. That’s why it’s so important to know when to have your ducts professionally cleaned. Not sure if your air ducts are due for a cleaning? Here are some ways you’ll know:

Your renovations finally concluded. During a remodel, your home may become filled with dust and debris — even in places where you can’t always see! It’s not uncommon for ducts to be filled with dirt after a renovation, especially if asbestos abatement or lead paint removal was involved.

You suspect an infestation. Rodents love to make their nests in cozy air duct systems. Think about it, nice and air conditioned in the summer, cozy and toasty warm in the winter — who wouldn’t want to snuggle up in there? Unfortunately, pest infestations can bring disease and you definitely don’t want to be circulating those germs through your home.

You see or smell mold. If your notice that mold has begun to form inside your ductwork, you must call a professional right away. Mold spores can be extremely dangerous, and in some cases even deadly, when allowed into the open air of your home.

Your family is becoming ill.
Mysterious illnesses that won’t dissipate might be caused by allergens circulating through a dirty air duct system. While mold is the most obvious culprit, there are plenty of other contaminants that can be causing health issues.
