How To Keep Allergies Under Control This Spring

Spring is in the air — but so are dust, pollen, pet dander, and other pesky allergens! If you want to keep allergies under control this season, here are the steps you’ll need to follow:
Launder bedding regularly. Your sheets, pillows, throw blankets and even throw rugs can trap dust and allergen particles. Washing these items once a week in hot water helps kill residual dust mites and keep sneezing, coughing and runny noses to a minimum.

Clean with only green.
Sometimes the chemicals present in household cleaning products can cause an allergic reaction or asthma attack. Instead, stock your cleaning cabinet with organic alternatives and handmade cleaning products.

Dust often, and correctly. When it comes to indoor allergens, the most common triggers across the board are dust mites. Dust can form anywhere in your home — quickly. To reduce dust in your home, declutter as much as possible, vacuum and dust often with a damp cloth.

Invest in HEPA filters. Your home’s heating and cooling system requires frequent filter changes to keep dust and allergen particles out of the air. While a standard filter may require changing monthly, a HEPA filter is much more durable and long-lasting. They even make HEPA filters for your vacuum to trap small particles safely.

Keep humidity under control. Pet dander and dust are more likely to thrive and mill about in dry air conditions, while mold and mildew are a product of moisture. Using your central heating and cooling system, you can regulate your home’s humidity levels to keep allergens at bay.
