Rattling – It’s possible that the access panels of your furnace have come loose and are banging around, which would explain the rattling sound. Give them a look and tighten as necessary.

Squealing – A whining or squealing sound is indicative of a broken belt or ungreased motor. To troubleshoot, turn the furnace off check the belt, and apply a few drops of motor oil to see if the sound stops.

Inconsistency – Does your furnace seem to turn on and off more often than scheduled? This could be a simple fix regarding the fuel or filter. However, it’s best to have a professional take a look.
