4 Tips on Dealing With Aggressive AC Salespeople

Air conditioning companies are not exempt from having pushy and aggressive salespeople. This can be off-putting for people who want to explore their options before making their choice. In this post, local AC repair company Tyler shares tips on how to deal with aggressive air conditioning salespeople.

1. Don’t cave in to pressure tactics. Pressuring a prospective buyer is one of the most common ways salespeople hook prospective clients. This appears to be an effective tactic since many of them still use it. A seller would manipulate your emotions and make you feel like you have no other option but to buy their product, or at least feel like you’re missing out on a great deal. If you find yourself in such a situation, ask the salesperson for more time to review your options and offer to call them back.

2. Take the time to research the average market prices. Some salespeople will resort to pricing games to make you think they’re giving you a good deal. Typically, they will start with a high price and whittle it down to a “reduced” price, maybe even offer a small discount on the AC repair cost on your first appointment. Knowing the average market price of air conditioning systems can help you decide whether or not you’re getting a good deal.

3. Understand air conditioning terms. Another common tactic used by salespeople is using jargon to confuse a potential buyer, sometimes rattling off numbers to give the impression that their products are better-performing or more efficient than the competition. Taking the time to learn terms related to air conditioning will help you not just in dealing with pushy salespeople, but in making informed choices before committing to a purchase.

4. Take your time reviewing a quote. The goal of every salesperson is to get a potential customer to sign the quote, which often doubles as the contract. Another kind of pressure tactic is telling customers they are eligible for a discount, but only if they sign within a short window – usually within a few hours or until the end of the day. As we discussed in our first tip above, ask the salesperson if you can review the quote and call them back. A reputable salesperson should give you as much time as you need to review the document and make a decision.

We at Tyler do not believe in using such tactics because we value customer service. Our reviews and repeat business speak for themselves. To know more about our services, including water heater repair, call (203) 660-2031, or fill out our contact form to schedule an appointment.
