What to Do When Your Furnace Won’t Turn On

Keeping your furnace in good shape should always be a priority. You do not want your equipment to stop working in the middle of winter. If this happens, schedule a service appointment immediately with the best HVAC company.

Read on to learn what to do when your furnace suddenly breaks down.

Check the Circuit Breaker

You must first check the circuit breaker if your furnace stops running. If it has tripped, reset it and try turning on the unit.

Replace the Filter

It does not necessarily mean you need a furnace replacement if your equipment won’t turn on. A simple air filter replacement could do the trick if there is not anything wrong with the circuit breaker. Dirty or clogged filters can keep air from flowing through your equipment, causing it to shut down unexpectedly.

Set the Thermostat Right

If replacing the filter did not help, check your thermostat. See if it is at the right temperature and if the wirings are secure.

Open the Gas Valve

A closed gas valve can interrupt HVAC operation. Open the valve if closed and turn on your furnace.

See If Igniter Has Issues

Your furnace will refuse to run if the igniter is not working right. If this is the case, the component would require replacement before you can turn on your equipment again.

Check the Blower Motor

Is the blower motor spinning correctly? You will need to replace it if it is malfunctioning, so your furnace continues operating smoothly.
