HVAC Care During the Winter

Winter brings with it many wonders, as well as many issues with which to contend: mainly, the effects of a cold climate on your home’s systems and other functions. One of the most important systems to take care of during the winter is your HVAC system, which is susceptible to temperature-related issues. What are the best ways to care for your HVAC system during the winter? Today, heat pump repair experts from Tyler LLC are here to tell you.

Filter cleaning and replacement. One of the best ways to keep your HVAC system working optimally is to clean or replace the air filter regularly. Your heater already works overtime to keep your home warm and toasty during the winter, and if it gets clogged, this will not only strain your system, it will also disrupt airflow. Regularly check and change your filter, as this will not only keep possible problems from arising, it will also minimize the cost of repairs.

Clear the area around the external intake pipe. An area clear of debris, snow and ice will make the external intake of air much more efficient and manageable, as well as reduce the possibility of having to get a premature furnace replacement due to poor air intake. Obstructions get in the way of efficiency, not to mention cause damage if there’s a lot of debris within the system.

Declutter the area around the furnace. This might seem trivial, but having objects around your furnace makes it harder to perform maintenance. Not to mention, they can become fire hazards in the unfortunate event of accidental combustion within the furnace area. Keep that area, as well as your vents, free of clutter and other objects that can hinder movement and be possible fire hazards. Always remember that prevention is the key to avoiding unnecessary repairs and expenses.
